Cosmo Energy Holdings Co., Ltd.
Cosmo Oil Marketing Co., Ltd.
Cosmo Energy Group company, Cosmo Oil Marketing Co., Ltd. (hereafter, “the Company”), announced today that the cumulative number of facilities that have decided to introduce its Cosmo Denki (Electricity) Business Green1 service has surpassed 3,0002 in the four years since it was launched.
Cosmo Denki (Electricity) Business Green is the generic name for an electricity plan that provides renewable energy-derived electricity, endorsed by a non-fossil certificate with tracking information linked to a renewable energy source, such as wind power generated by Cosmo Eco Power Co., Ltd., a Cosmo Energy Group company, as well as an electricity plan that combines virtually 100% renewable energy-derived electricity, endorsed by a non-fossil certificate purchased from Japan Electric Power Exchange (JEPX), with procured power. With the introduction of the system at approximately 3,000 facilities, the Company’s calculations show that around 360 million kWh of electricity consumed each year will be switched to renewable energy-derived electricity. This equates to an annual CO2 reduction effect of approximately 283,000 tons3.
In an effort to contribute to the realization of carbon neutrality across society as a whole, the Cosmo Energy Group has set out to bolster the green electricity supply chain as part of its Seventh Consolidated Medium-Term Management Plan and Vision 2030. This involves maximizing the value of green electricity through green electricity generation, supply-demand adjustment, and sales. To achieve this end, the Group will further expand sales of Cosmo Denki (Electricity) Business Green to meet the various needs of its customers. Furthermore, the Group is committed to supporting environmental footprint reduction initiatives undertaken by local governments and corporations aiming to decarbonize their operations. This includes providing Cosmo Denki (Electricity) Business Green, the introduction of electric vehicles (EVs) via the Group’s car leasing business, the installation of solar panels for in-house power consumption, and energy conservation through the visualization of electricity consumption.
1. About Cosmo Denki (Electricity) Business Green
Cosmo Denki (Electricity) Business Green is a service that helps businesses achieve zero CO2 emissions by providing them with added environmental value in the form of non-fossil certificates and other certificates with and without renewable energy designation. Customers purchase such certificates with a value equivalent to or greater than their total annual sales volume as part of the electricity sales process, thereby receiving proof that all the electricity they use offers environmental value derived entirely from renewable energy sources. Since its launch in 2020, the service has been utilized mainly by corporations and local governments seeking to decarbonize their operations.
