Cosmo Oil Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce that it entered into an agreement with REVO International Inc. (hereafter, “REVO International”) on November 6 to partner in the building of a used cooking oil collection network in the Chugoku-Shikoku area by leveraging the Cosmo Oil Sakaide Distribution Terminal in Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture, as a distribution base for used cooking oil.
Cosmo Oil, together with REVO International and JGC Holdings Corporation, established SAFFAIRE SKY ENERGY LLC on November 8, 2022 to pioneer Japan’s first large-scale production of domestically produced SAF*1 using used cooking oil as feedstock. Under this latest partnership, the parties have agreed that REVO International will utilize some of the facilities at the Sakaide Distribution Terminal as a primary terminal for the collection of used cooking oil, with the aim of realizing annual domestic supply of approximately 30,000 kiloliters of SAF produced entirely from used cooking oil. It is expected that this initiative will enable an annual increase of about 400 kiloliters in the volume of used cooking oil traded as a used cooking oil distribution base that mainly serves the Chugoku-Shikoku area.
SAFFAIRE SKY ENERGY LLC is currently in discussions with used cooking oil-generating companies to develop new accounts throughout Japan as it prepares to begin operating its SAF production line*2 within FY2024. Cosmo Oil believes that this initiative will help promote the trade of used cooking oil and improve transportation efficiency by tackling issues such as how to store and transport used cooking oil. This will in turn help address the so-called “2024 problem,” which involves reforming work practices in the logistics industry.
Cosmo Oil and REVO International remain committed to contributing to the future decarbonization and low carbonization of the aviation sector through their domestically produced SAF business.
